Thank you everybody who controlled during this event! The Open is usually one of our busiest and everyone handled the traffic very well from what I saw. A huge shoutout to Steve and Lucio from ZDC for helping us out. Your work on approach was excellent and Zach and I on Final approach are both are grateful for the smoothness. Center did a great job handling everything so props to Juan and Josh for your work. And for the Local controllers, whom for many was their first ZAB event experience, excellent job and welcome to the ZAB event club. Thanks again everyone!
I just wanted to take a second and wish everyone a very Merry Christmas! Thank you all for all of your work this year and your awesome activity! Keep up the activity and lets all make this upcoming year even better than this year has been!
We still need TRACON and TOWER controllers for the Phoenix Open event this month. Please use the sign-up's in the forums at https://forum.zabartcc.org/index.php?topic=650.0
Any and all help will be appreciated as this is going to be a busy event!
The Letter of Agreement between ZAB and ZLA has been updated to reflect the changes in LA's arrival routes. Please be sure to read this LOA whether you are an S1 or an I1. The only major changes are the new RNAV STAR's that are being used at LAX. I have left the old version up for now so you can compare the differences for yourself.
As you all know, I recently announced my retirement as the manager of our ARTCC.
Selection of my successor is handled by VATUSA8, Brighton McMinn.
I am pleased to announce the selection and appointment of Austin Robison to take the wheel and steer this ARTCC into the future.
I appreciate the time I was given to guide this ARTCC over the past few years, but it was time for me to step aside, and I know Austin is the right choice for the job.
The ABQ MVA video map has been updated to include embedded altitude limits, so it is no longer blank. The sector files for Trinity, vERAM and vSTARS have all been updated with the new map. See the announcement in the Forums.
Give him a huge pat on the back! Just be careful, he bites...
Since the launch of the new website until just about 5 minutes ago, controlling sessions have been lost. This was due to a glitch in the MySQL database that made it to where when any specific session was updated, the start time field was updated to the current time instead of remaining as the start time of the session. Apologies for this, and thank you to David Rutledge for noticing this and reporting it to me!
A beta test is in progress of an update to our airport diagrams! Our very own Chris Knepper (KY) has been working on this, with the blessing of our stalwart Facilities Engineer, Ed Sterling (ES). A link to the forum post containing a link to the file is here!
We took both the Approach and Center awards for Iron Mic again last week. Great job by all controllers who put in time to help out.
Great job on staffing from 11/30 - 12/6. PHX_TWR and PHX_APP came in #2 and #3 in their respective categories as well!
The one and only Training Thursday to be held a few months ago was a huge success, with a decent turnout and lots of good questions. Unfortunately due to my work schedule changing soon after that, they never happened again. I would like to revive these training sessions, but at a new and improved timeslot. Training "Thursdays" will now be held EVERY (thats right folks, EVERY) Saturday at 2pm local time. Bring your questions!
If you have forgotten your password, never fear! The "forgot password" function is now live and functional! As always, if you find something wrong with this system, please let me know so I can repair it. Thanks!
Teamspeak is back up. I moved hosts, so you will need to contact a staff member to get your tags. The <b>voice.zabartcc.org</b> DNS entry has been updated to the new IP, but it may take up to 12 hours for that to propagate to all DNS lists. If you are still having issues connnecting by tomorrow (06 March 2015) morning, email me for the direct IP, and yell at your ISP for having crappy DNS, then switch over to Google's DNS (since that propagated to me in about 30 seconds).
The Teamspeak host has informed me that they were the victim of a DDoS attack earlier today on the cluster of boxes that hosts our Teamspeak. Our particular box was not the target, but is affected by the attacks. They are working on tracing the attack, and until they can, will have all services offline. They estimate to be back online by Thursday, 05 March 2015. I will keep everyone updated as I know more.
The training portion of the website has been restored. You'll find that it is fancy like the rest of the website. Instead of retro-fitting ZABITS to the new site, I just decided it would be more efficient to rewrite it all.
As always, let me know if you find any bugs/issues. There probably are some because, "I don't always test code, but when I do, I test in production."
Love you all long time,
As I'm sure you have noticed, there is a new website to play around with! Please check your email for your new password. If you find any bugs or boo-boos, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org so I can fix them as soon as possible.
In the mean time, the training module (including ZABITS) will be down for the next 24-48 hours while the conversion takes place and things are fixed. Thank you for your patience!
